Your skin is the largest body organ and the first thing people see when they see you. Given that, it needs more care and attention. It takes more than just applying body oils and lotion to give your skin a healthy glow. Sometimes people go overboard, but in this article, we share simple yet effective tips to help you get the glow that shows healthy and well-cared-for skin.
Healthy Meals
Healthy meals promote smooth and young-looking skin. Eat more fruits and vegetables combined with lean proteins and whole grains. Try to do diets rich in healthy oils and fats like fish oil and nuts. Take a lot of water. Water keeps you hydrated and helps the body release toxins that may clog up your skin to make it dull and unhealthy.
Avoid Stress
When your body is under stress, it releases the cortisol hormone to neutralize and control pressure. Cortisol is excellent. However, it halts other body functions to deal with the stress. This is detrimental not only to your body but the skin too.
Cortisol caused by stress makes the skin extra sensitive and may trigger acne and other related skin problems. Try getting enough sleep, rest, and let go of stressful situations, especially those beyond your control. You can do activities that relax you like swimming, walking, watching a friendly TV show or movie or reading or whatever calms you down.
Use Mild Chemicals
We all get tempted to stay in the hot shower and bathtub a little longer, especially after a long day. While it all good and relaxing, the hot water takes away all the skin’s needed oils. Take a warm bath instead of a hot one and limit your time under the water. Choose mild soaps and shower gels, then pat dry after the shower to leave some moisture on your skin.
Avoid Direct Sunlight
Sunlight is natural and healthy; however, it has its wrong sides. Between the hours of 10 am to 4 pm, it releases the strongest rays. These rays are great for drying cement, wet areas but not so friendly to your skin. They scorch your skin and make it lose water and oils. If you want to enjoy sunlight, it is best to busk before 10 am or go for a walk after 4 pm. If you must go outside between these hours when the rays are strongest, apply sunscreen after every two hours, cover your skin as much as possible, and do light woven articles of clothing and caps.
